Zoo Apprentice

Grades 11-College

Prepare to audition for a hardcore zoo reality camp! This mini version of Zoo Careers without frills is an intense exploration of one select animal zoo area. It's a hard day and night's work at the zoo, so prepare to get hot and tired while practicing your husbandry skills under the eyes of watchful keepers. This program offers insight about managing a world class zoological facility with opportunities to interact with zoo staff and receive valuable career guidance. Accompany zookeepers through their morning responsibilities as they open exhibits and get the day started. Later, it's time for the other perspective. Meet up with them once again in the evening to close out and bed down the animals. Come walk in a "keeper's boots" for a few short days.

  • Meet keepers on the Serengeti Safari to discuss how the Species Survival Plans impacts the zoo
  • Attend a workshop on behavior management techniques and observe them in practice
  • Enjoy all the world class rides, shows, and immersion animal exhibits Busch Gardens and Adventure Island offer

Zoo Apprentice is a 3-night long, intense career camp which begins at 12:00PM Saturday morning and ends promptly Tuesday morning at 9:00AM.  Adventure Camps are fully chaperoned resident camps that include the following amenities:

  • Transportation between Busch Gardens and Tampa International Airport (TPA)
  • All meals and snacks
  • Two Adventure Camps T-shirts and a water bottle
  • Housing at our secure, onsite dormitory, Mzinga Lodge
